Watch this before you buy gold and silver

Are you relying on one income source?
Posted by: | CommentsIn a three-year period, I bought millions of dollars in residential real estate. I still believe that real estate is one of the best vehicles to create wealth, and that everyone should invest in real estate whether it’s your main income or you’re just buying a couple of houses a year to add to your retirement portfolio.
But some things happened in my real estate business that caused my monthly cash flow to go down significantly. I will follow up in the future about some of the lessons learned during this time specifically regarding real estate, but the point right now is…
The income from the residential real estate business was all I had at the time – income that I had come to rely on as a sole source.
God used the situation to teach me more than ever the importance of multiple streams of income. I had always believed in it, but thought I didn’t have to concern myself with it, since real estate was MY business, and I would NEVER need anything else, right?
Even if you have a steady job, I recommend that you have your own business of some kind on the side instead of relying on that one income source for obvious reasons. Don’t have fear of losing your job, but be wise and prepare in case things don’t go as planned.
If you are diverse in your businesses, investments, and real estate, then you won’t be affected as greatly as markets change in various areas. If there is a bump in the road with one of your markets (or the loss of a job), you have the others that continue to flow. In the current economy, this is not just a good idea, but could be essential for the future.

Is Fear Holding You Back?

But with the economic uncertainties we are facing right now, maybe you feel this is not the time to step out and take a risk. On the contrary, it is more risky to sit back and do nothing than it is to step out and do something new.
This is exactly what Jesus was telling us in the parable of the minas, or talents, in Luke 19, when the “wicked servant” buried his investment in the ground because he was too afraid to take any risks.
The truth is that it’s more important than ever, right now, to implement new strategies in your life. Now is the best time to start or build a business, or to start investing in something besides your 401(k)s.
Many of us blame the economic challenges as the reason we should sit back and do nothing, but what was the excuse a few years ago when the economy was thriving (at least on the surface), and we didn’t act on any new strategies then? The reason is: FEAR!
Trust in the Lord to give you discernment for what you specifically are to do during these uncertain times, but don’t let fear be the reason you are holding back!

Biblical Answer to our Economic Challenges
Posted by: | CommentsMost of us have heard the phrase “multiple streams of income” as a means of achieving financial freedom. The advantage of multiple streams is if one stream dries up or slows down, you have others flowing in to pick up the slack.
Is this a new idea? Not at all. The Scriptures are in agreement. Ecclesiastes 11 speaks of taking risks and making multiple investments rather than operating out of fear and exercising too much caution. But look at verses 1 & 2…
“Cast your bread upon the waters [plural], for you will find it after many days. Give a serving to seven, and also to eight, for you do not know what evil will be on the earth.”
This “evil” can simply be, as one example, the current economic challenges we are facing as individuals and as a nation. We can pray, we can fast, we can declare, we can tithe (and we need to do all of these), but the Lord also gives us wisdom in taking some practical (and biblical) steps to ensure our financial well-being.
Multiple income streams is one way to minimize or even eliminate the “evil,” because if you have enough streams, one can completely disappear and you won’t even notice it too much.
This passage goes on to say in verse 6, “In the morning, sow your seed, and in the evening, do not withhold your hand; for you do not know which will prosper, either this or that, or whether both alike will be good.”
